Tuesday Beat: Taj Munroe - Guilty Innocence

As you might have noticed by now, most of my Tuesday beats are not new music. I have lots of new music (it pays to be a former radio personality) but I like to play the not so new stuff. It just depends on my mood when I select it. Today we have Taj. Enjoy some RnB ...

Random Post: The crush that confirmed my queerness

I met someone this past week and she reminded of a woman that I had the worst crush on. To this day, I think of her when someone walks by wearing her favored scent.

She was 5'9", brunette and athletic looking. That's all that I knew the first time I met her in church about 9 years ago. I did not hear a single thing that day as I was fixated on her. The next time that I saw her she had come back to sing in the church choir Easter cantata. During that visit I learnt her name. Still didn't have the guts to say hello. Note it was a very small church and I was the only person of color in the congregation at the time. The third time that I met her was at the church summer picnic and I finally managed to squeak out a hello. Almost died in the process.

If there was any question as to whether or not I liked women she answered that one. I was fairly certain that I did, but she sealed the deal. I remember meeting her several times during the course of that year and seemed to be struck dumb each time. Christmas of that year I was drafted into the choir so I got to see a lot more of her as we rehearsed for the Christmas cantata. I found my voice and actually got into a few conversations with her. She was / is one of the easiest people to talk to once you get going. Turns out she is a very compassionate lady with wicked wit. I would say more on her, but a few readers of the blog would immediately figure out who she is and I would have one hell of a time living it down.

As the years have progressed we've become friends but she still has the ability to strike me dumb ... talk about an enduring crush. Anyway have a good weekend folks!

PS - Totally Random - Has anyone ever actually listened to the words in Pink's song Fingers. It's an '06 track. I've been listening to her stuff while writing this and I've just now caught the full meaning of the song. Talk about a brilliant song on Self Service ;).

Half Penny Post: Weekly Rundown

Tis Friday! Yihaa. On to the news:
Well I was down in OK for a few days to help my cousin move and it was one hell of a trip. We packed up a house, moved and painted a room inside of 48hours. I left home Tues night, drove all night and arrived in time for breakfast. Napped for 2 hours and the packing began. I drove back Thurs night as my sister had a flight on Friday afternoon. It was one hell of a trip. I loved hanging out with my niece and I got tired of calling out my nephew's name every 5 minutes. Love the 2 of them to bits though.

Summer in Chicago is a fine thing. Lots to do and see. I go dancing in the park most Thursdays and Fridays. They also have one concert or another going on and I got to see Lura perform. She's from Cape Verde and her music is a fusion of African and Caribbean beats. Loved it!

5 more days and Summer school will be over. I'll probably continue with my online disaster recovery coursework through to the end if Summer.

Job search continues. I have an interview with the Red Cross on Tuesday but it's for volunteer work. With luck I'll get in my required hours of community service in disaster relief. Still trying to keep my UN backup plan in play.

I am considering taking a trip out west probably 2nd or 3rd week of September. I am considering taking a train instead of flying. Not because it's cheaper, but because I would like to see the scenery. The train beats the bus any day.

Tis off to paper writing ... well a drink first then we write a paper, it is Friday after all.

Half Penny Post: Insanity Reigns

My bad for being M.I.A for a few. I know I owe you a recount of my travels from last week as well as a weekly rundown. I hope to do a combo post on Friday.
Shit hit the fan and for some bloody reason the fan jus keeps on blowing. Digging out of this mess will require a lotta elbow grease and a big ass shovel. I actually have a tension headache from this mess and I broke down and took some meds for it. I accept full responsibility for my part in this whole fiasco. Now where did I leave my coveralls and wellingtons ... might as well get to work. BTW the insanity officially began with my phone taking an unsanctioned swim.
Other than the shit and the fan can't say much else is going on.

Tuesday Beat: TLC - No Scrubs

We're taking it back a lil with this one. This used to be THE jam.
