Half Penny Post: Weekly Rundown

Week of insanity:
  • I had finals this week & 2 group presentations & 2 papers. Haven't had a half nights sleep since my sleep marathon last Friday.
  • Last weekend I got bona fide schooled by a website!
  • Weather was beautiful yesterday and the flooding that ensued meant lots of flooded basements this morning.
  • We're practicing visualization .... watch me do big things.
  • Job hunting run down - I was turned down for 2 jobs this week and invited to interview for one. Yay!
  • I just saw photos of my niece Nosa ... can you say strong family resemblance from our end?
  • I'm staring down turning 26 and it's beginning to hit me that I ain't no spring chicken nomore. I'm more of an early summer chicken.
  • My ex from way back when, and we're talking some 7 odd years ago, got married and just had a son.
  • Zimbabwe's cholera epidemic is really kicking into high gear in a very bad way. According to the World Health Organization, some 83,000 people have contracted cholera and 3,800 have died from it.
  • I think single is the way to go most of the time, but I'm discovering going out with friends and their mates means 3rd wheelitis kicks in.
  • While I'm not vying to lose weight, I've managed to keep it steady inspite of my crazy eating habits. I'm working my way to that 2 pack. Come summer we'll have hit 4 pack status.

Half Penny Post: Drained

Do you ever get up and just feel drained. I'm talking emotionaly, physically, everything, just plain drained. I'm coming off of the 2 craziest weeks (weekly rundown will be later today) of the year thus far and I am drained. My body is bitching at me about neglect and my mind is calling it quits. I just wanna lay in bed all day, but that is not possible. The rain is probably not helping. Aaaaaargh.

This quarter I was ambitious and almost bit off more than I could chew. My school and workload combined were not thought out properly and I've pushed myself more than I should have. I've had more tension headaches over the last month than I did all of last quarter. I rarely succumb to a full blown case of the cold / flu but last week it levelled me out. I've really gotta get that work - life - school balance. I'm not a fan of meds and so I've had to come up with alternate ways of easing the headaches. Most of the time it comes down to going to the famed happy place. In most instances it's the beach in Key West. A hot shower also helps loads.

When I get home tonight, I'm turning off my phone watching tv. I've DVRed a lot of stuff in the last 2 weeks that I want to watch. So tonight we relax and recharge batteries with TV, tea, some pizza and a Cadbury's Flake.

Half Penny Post: Weekly Rundown

Tis Friday.... hugs all around. Tis the weekend of Mardi Gras parties. I have a cold and think I'll be home recouperating. This has got to be the oddest cold I've ever had. It's all in my head and my inner ear hurts like the dickens.
With that said here comes the rundown:
  • Happy 1st anniversary to The Queer African. It's hard to believe we've been at it for a year.
  • My vision board is beginning to take shape nicely. I'm putting up things that I want to attract into my life.
  • Work's getting into high gear. Got a website migration coming up and that will be fun.
  • School's putting metatarsal to posterior but I shall prevail. Got 3 papers due this coming week and 2 group presentations.
  • I'm appreciating being queer more and more each day. On AE there is are two threads in the forums on queer africans. If you are queer and African stop by and contribute. They are here and here.
  • I'm an avid follower of the Kubatana blogs and they have been giving a running commentary on the situation in Zimbabwe. Two of my favorites this week are 'One cannot push an immobile bus from inside' and 'Where are the women'. The article 'Fight for a fresh elections' is also worth a read and features my favorite line "If the engine is defective, the car can never move."
  • A new episode of Cherry Bomb is up. The title is Truth or Truth and it is probably my favorite episode thus far. Glo's facial expressions were hilarious. As I mentioned in my comment on the episode itself, I wonder if Glo and Nikki are together. They are awfully chummy / close and Nikki kept looking at her during some of the more intimate questions. One of the questions was would you give up sex and masturbation for 6 million dollars. I had to give some thought to this one. I think on a separate post I'm going to answer some of the questions. We'll see.
  • BTW anyone ever played a game of Truth or Strip. If not you've got to give it a try. It makes for an interesting night if things are slow with you and your boo.
Have a good weekend!

Half Penny Post: Job search week of Feb 20

I think I'm going to document my job search as a way of maintaining accountability. My needing to post something will force me to avoid slacking as a post of I did nothing is just not good for morale. So tentatively I'll post on Wednesdays.
So this week :
  • I attended a job fair and made 6 good contacts. 2 might actually pan out into internships for the Summer.
  • I met a gentleman who gave me the name of his company contact for a Business Continuity vendor so I need to follow-up on that tonight.
  • I met with my former professor who had pointers on where I need to be looking as my field is a niche market. (Better odds for internship selection - problem is there are wayyyyy fewer internships in this field.)
  • My resume got a full face lift.
  • Attended a goal setting workshop.
