Weekly Rundown

Salut good people.
  • Yet another week has gone by ... well two weeks if we're honest. I went out east last week to see my niece and we had us a gay ole time. We even got to spend an afternoon at the zoo together while her mom did her thing. I love babysitting her. My sister is convinced I'll make an excellent mother when the time comes. Side note: I was called the baby's father a grand total of 4 times in the same afternoon.
  • The librarian and I continue to do the two step. I now stop by to chat even when I have no books to pick up. I've been late for work a time or five and that's saying a lot. It's been a while since I've met someone that I can match wits with at this level.
  • The week was a tad bumpy and I have the bruises to prove it.
  • I can't believe we are already in June. Where has the year gone?
  • The hunt for a permanent job continues and we shall leave it at that.
  • I am officially averaging one wedding per weekend. What's the rush people? There is no prize for getting there first.
  • Overheard on the bus: Guy1 "I will hit that and quit that." Guy2 "Nah. I'll keep that. She looks like she can cook." I looked over to see who they were talking about and the first thing that went through my mind was "I'd shag her everyday of the week and twice on Sunday." I just had the decency to keep it to myself.
Have a good long weekend folks! If you are a soccer fan, Chicago Fire plays AC Milan tomorrow.

Tuesday Beat: Make that Tuesday Beauties

Fret not, next week we'll return to the music.

There are a few times a year when I am a total perv. So much so that I preface my thoughts with "Forgive me Lord for I am about to sin." Those times are the release of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition, the Victoria's Secret runway show, After Ellen's Hot 100 ... you get the gist.

AfterEllen published its Hot 100 list so I went ahead and prefaced my thoughts and forged ahead. Olivia Wilde [Thirteen on House] topped the list and Kristen Stewart [forgive me for still not getting her allure] came in second. Lilly Loveless [Naomi from Skins] came in third and Sara Ramirez [Callie on Grey's] came in at a heart-warming fourth. Lane Bryant needs to give this woman a modeling contract if they haven't already. Portia de Rossi [Mrs Ellen] rounded off the top 5.

There was also the Women of color edition which was pretty decent. I offer my top 5: Zoe Saldana, Sarah Shahi, Sara Ramirez, Jessica Clark and Sheetal Sheth. Note that I am totally fascinated by women who speak more that one language well. Before I get jumped for applying the two languages clause to Ms Clark, she speaks English and American rather well. For all I know she might speak one or two other languages as well.

Amy over at Amy Wong Blog published her list of "AfterEllen Top East-Asian Suggestions 2010'". If you are a fan of subtitles, some of the names / faces should be familiar. My top 3 off of her list are Xun Zhou, Vicki Zhao and Aya Ueto.

Weekly Rundown

Lo and behold it's Friday!
  • Shout out to Evolving who graduates tomorrow. She made it!
  • The librarian chronicles continue. Stopped by on Thursday, a lot earlier than usual and had the dubious honor of disrupting her breakfast which got us talking about morning routines and travel. My inner pansy keeps saying a girl this easy to talk to has got to have someone in her life.
  • I'll be going to see my little princess next week. YAY!
  • The craziness of past weeks continues. A lot more things are in the air now. My life will never be boring at the rate that things keep changing.
  • I love my life. The ups and downs and in betweens. I wouldn't trade it for any one else's!
Excerpt from conversation with an old classmate that I bumped into on the bus. Me: So any fun plans for the weekend? Her: Not really. I'm going to get a tattoo or a piercing. We'll see when I get there. M: You already look like you lost a battle with a tackle box, how many does that make? H: Ten. [...] Since you asked how many do you have? M: Eight. H: [raises an eyebrow] M: Half of them are hidden. H: If I'd known you had a wild and freaky side I'd have asked you out instead of X. [I knew them both before they started dating - you live in the lab you start to know its other inhabitants]

Diversity at its best

I am sitting in a lab on campus [old habits die hard]. Along our bank of nine computers are the following nationalities: Chinese - Zimbabwean - American - Saudi - Saudi - Indian - Turkish - American - Ecuadorean. We're the good ole UN in here. In the hour and a half that I've been in here I've heard half of them on their phones using their native languages. It does my heart good to be in here.
I worked with the international students for two years which is how I know their nationalities.

Tuesday Beat: Mango Groove - Happy Endings

Song makes me tear up every time.
I believe in happy endings
Even though I know you don't know why
It doesn't mean that happy endings
Won't make you cry.

Weekly Rundown

Salut my good people.
  • Last week's edition was skipped as I was in the capital hanging out with the apple of my eye. Other than the fussing courtesy of her teething, we had ourselves a gay ol' time. That kid is my heart.
  • Onto this week ... the Chi is cold. They lied about Spring arriving. 44F is not my idea of Spring.
  • There is no librarian edition as I was away last week and worked at an alternate location this week. I have 2 tickets to the symphony and my sister thinks it'd be a good event to invite her to. Its a free show but the tickets ran out on the same day that they put them out.
  • Job search has been a good and proper roller coaster which in turn has resulted in an emotional roller coaster. I am too old for this.
  • My mama went back home. Unfortunately her luggage was broken into and a lot of stuff was missing by the time she got home.
  • In happier news, congrats to the African gang at the Berg who graduate this weekend. It's been a long road to freedom and I wish you all well. Congrats to my mate Gregoir who will turn in his black book tomorrow.
  • I'm looking forward to dinner with friends tomorrow. I could use some adult company whose conversation will not center around IT.
  • We had Google SoC talks today and tomorrow we hit up Android development. I am not a developer by trade but I do enjoy learning about what I can do with Android. Tomorrow we tackle GPS.
Finally don't forget to wish your mamas a Happy Mother's Day!

Mini rant - Crackers

Regularly scheduled programming will return on Friday.

Open letter to a little hacker wannabe.
You idiot! Who the *^&% do you think you are hacking into my laptop? Honey I've been in this game for a minute and believe me when I say karma is a biatch and she's gonna make you her bitch. What kind of moron hacks into an environment and forgets to clean their tracks? Like seriously did you miss the cover your ass chapter in cracking for dummies? All data packets have an address you IDIOT even if you hide your IP Address. Even if you engage in IP Spoofing, you can be found with a bit of effort and the right tools. Tracebacks exist for a reason.
Your favorite security person.

Ty

Explanation - A lil twerp hacked into my PC while I was calibrating some software and had the nerve to write me a note. It was my test environment so there was minimal security and nothing sensitive on the drive but it pissed me off. The drive is thoroughly wiped daily so it was more of an ego thing for me than anything else. I studied security design and ethical hacking was taught. They have another thing coming the next time they try this again.

Tuesday Beat: Alesha Dixon - Breathe Slow

I am gonna breathe slow
Count from one to ten with my eyes closed
'cause ladies take it in and get composure
Ladies never lose composure.
